How To Avoid Overeating At Christmas Time
The festive season is upon us and no doubt you’re all looking forward to spending time with friends and families in your support bubbles over Christmas. It may look and feel a little different this year, thanks to the pandemic, but it is still Christmas – which means there’s going to be lots of amazing food on the table over the next few weeks.
Overeating can be tricky to manage at this time of year but with a little bit of planning and forethought, you can still enjoy all that delicious festive fare and not worry too much about your waistline expanding.
Eating mindfully doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself – quite the opposite, in fact. It means you’re less likely to lose track of how much you’ve eaten over the day, so you can make more informed decisions about what snacks you want and when.
Another strategy is to make sure you slow down if you know you’re a fast eater. Really focus on what you’re eating, truly savouring it, and you’ll end up feeling fully satisfied and less likely to go looking for more food.
Stay hydrated throughout the day, as we often mistake hunger for thirst, so drinking water regularly can make a big difference. And, as hard as it may be with all the treats floating around on offer, try to make sure you’re getting at least five portions of fruit and veg a day. It’s important to maintain balance with what you’re eating, after all.
Being organised really is key to making sure you don’t overeat at Christmas time but throughout the rest of the year, as well. Using a healthy meal prep service can prove really beneficial in this regard, as it means you know you’ll definitely have food available that is good for you and not just empty calories.
